For her works she is inspired by anything that somehow captures her attention: a landscape, a song, a scene from a movie, a word, the weather or a stone. Se more or less nervously uses the pencils and digital. She loves cats and to balance herself she practices yoga. “I am Romina, I have been doing illustration and graphic design for more than a decade. A “Marchigiana” finest, I perfectly live between the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini Mountains.
After a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and a master’s degree in illustration, I now work in both fields. I sometimes feel more graphic designer, sometimes more illustrator, but fortunately the twoidentities manage to coexist peacefully. I usually prefer to draw in the evening while I sit at home and listen to good music. Drawing represents for me a kind of relaxation, which is perhaps why I unconsciously tend to represent what I see around me like the various rooms in the house. When I am outside in the fresh air, I do not draw but I “snap” the moment that will later become a source of inspiration for future works.”
Who/what do you get inspired by for your creations? I buy many, many more comics and graphic novels than I can read! I really like Asian comics, historical/political docu-comics, and then there is Manuele Fior who I definitely consider one of my favorite authors. More than inspiration I call it “voluntary distraction.” When I’m working on something and I reach a dead end I start randomly surfing the web, on Pinterest or Instagram. After a few hours of distraction-creative I start again with a different vision.
What are the indispensable characteristics that a true professional artist? Perseverance, a good artistic background and a lot of curiosity.
The most interesting project in which you have been professionally involved? A few summers ago I was involved by a friend writer in an urban redevelopment project, creating a mural outside a kindergarten in the municipality of Macerata. I like these kinds of projects because you learn a lot of things dictated by the problems of the media during the production process. Three adjectives that characterize you… Introverted, emotional (a lot) and fussy from a work standpoint.
What do you feel like telling everyone who is currently looking for inspiration and good creative ideas? Ideas come from a phrase or more simply a gesture that during the day strikes me. The idea is a feeling that is then translated into drawing, almost like magic! Let’s talk now about your relationship with colors/juxtapositions…. I get inspired by the colors I see around me: whether natural elements or materials, I observe all the combinations that most tickle my creative curiosity.
