“I feel I have to communicate a message to the whole world through my women”
Sofia, aka Azzurroscuro, first graduated as a computer expert and then also in illustration and animation at the IED in Milan. She lives in Como where she works as an illustrator and studies UX/UI Design.
We immediately understand that Sofia is young but with very clear ideas!
Her training at the IED profoundly marked her both professionally and from a human point of view. During this period her style evolved, also thanks to the lessons of Olimpia Zagnoli, who taught her some precious advices that she would grasp only later in her path.
At the center of her illustrations there are sinuous and abundant female bodys, which combine both representational and emotional values.
From an aesthetic point of view Sofia’s messages go beyond our common ‘idea’ of the body itself; the result of these uncommon female silhouttes, who differs from the collective taste, creates an emotional imbalance for all her audience. She decided to represent women in this way, so that this vision of these bodies would be considered normal and not as a provocative act.
Her source of inspiration is the concept of the sanctity of the female body, a clear reference to the women depicted on terracotta during the Palaeolithic (Venus of Willendorf).
Femininity is represented here as a sign of fertility, where everything is created in a deep connection with the earth. In addition to this in her illustration there is the influence of her strong passions for Botero and Modigliani.
“I start with the composition, then I decide what pose I want to achieve and above all what message I want to convey. From here I move on to the sketch, lightening it step by step from non-essential strokes to its completion. I then think about the colour sketch and the lines come in the end”.
The result is wonderful! Minimal lines, strong colours that represent 90% of her works, and that give life to all her characters.
